Running out of Water

Hello my dear friends!

It’s time for me to tell you again some new things. One week passed and nothing special happened.

9th class in Data Entry

Well, I got used to teaching again and I really like it, but it is also kind of hard. Why? Because you have to study it first for yourself and after that you try to explain it to the children. Data Entry is not that hard for me because I used to study once for the ECDL, but Indian Geography is sometimes a bit difficult. Sometimes I have to read through it three times to understand it or I even have to watch a video on YouTube, but since I’m not a trained teacher, I am satisfied with how it is going.

This weekend was a little bit stressful for me because I had Sabbath Ministry and Pathfinder Club. It may not sound hard, but it really was and I was almost dead after this day. Five other girls and I had to prepare breakfast, lunch and supper for 120 people. And I was so to speak the chef – quite funny to cook Indian food as a European. But I had many helping hands and they really knew how to cook the food – so I was just mainly responsible for everything that goes wrong.

Serve breakfast

My day startet at 5:40 am; I went to the kitchen and met the other girls. We had to get our things from our cute little shop. After that we started preparing breakfast, which should be ready at 7 o’clock. We served milk, bread with jam and beans.
Preparing lunch was more work. First we had to peel potatoes for 120 people, then cook rice, cut carrots, peal sutschi (tastes like a tasteless pumpkin and it is green), cut tomatoes and peal eggs. After four hours of preparing food we finished cooking.
After that we got ready for church and one girl borrowed me a typical Indian dress. At church we had to take care that we don’t fall asleep.
At 1 pm we served the food and it actually was pretty good. Then I took an afternoon nap because I was so tired. At 5 pm our pathfinder club started and we started the knots honor. Somehow I also survived the club. It was a mess, nobody knew what to do and at the end everybody was asking me how to do it.
During the time I was at the pathfinder club, the girls prepared supper. After supper I went to my house and relaxed a bit before I went to bed very tired.

Another thing I want to tell you about and also ask you to pray about is our water situation. Because it is dry season now, we are running out of drinking water. We are 120 people at the school and the groundwater is getting lower and lower every day. If we continue to use as much water, we will have to close the school in two days. But our school is not the only place where we have problems with water. Generally in West Garo Hills the water is almost empty and some other schools also had to close or sent the kid’s home until the raining season comes. So pray that we will soon have rain.

It is strange to know that I will leave this place in three weeks and I tam sure that I will miss the kids a lot. Some of them even want to come with me.

Well see you soon,
Miss Ellis
